About the Event

This vibrant concert opens with Smetana’s Bartered Bride—a joyful and lively overture that sets a celebratory tone. Rising star and Classic FM favourite Kasparas Mikuzis, a young Lithuanian pianist known for his artistry and versatility, joins the orchestra to perform Gershwin’s energetic, jazz-infused Piano Concerto.

Timeless favourites such as the Blue Danube Waltz and the iconic theme from Desert Island Discs need no introduction. In contrast, Arturo Márquez’s Conga del Fuego, though less familiar, brings irresistible Latin American flair with catchy rhythms and lyrical melodies.

The season concludes on a high note with The Suite Antipodean, composed by our conductor Stephen Scotchmer. Inspired by his recent travels to Australia, this imaginative work blends sea shanties with elements of Aboriginal music to evoke the rich cultural landscape of the continent.
