About the Event
TICKETS NOT ON SALE YET:
Written for the 37th Anniversary of the Russian revolution, Shostakovich’s bubbling Festival Overture is full of uncomplicated merriment and is simply one big enjoyable party! Summer Evening is one of Delius’ many serene, impressionistic tone poems. Full of seductive sonorities, there is more than a passing similarity to Debussy’s L’Apres-midi d’un Faune - a work which it predates by four years.
We are delighted to have as our soloist for Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto the brilliant and versatile Jiaxin Lloyd Webber who has been principal cello of the Auckland Chamber Orchestra and has performed concertos by Dvořák, Elgar and Lalo as well as Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations. She has performed and recorded on many occasions with husband Julian Lloyd Webber and their 2013 ‘Tale of Two Cellos’ recording became the UK’s number one classical album for many weeks. It remains Naxos’ best-selling album of all time!
