Rossini’s Overture to The Thieving Magpie is a sparkling showcase of the composer’s trademark theatricality, opening with a dramatic drum roll and surging through vibrant crescendos to a triumphant finale – a thrilling curtain-raiser for any concert.
Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 stands apart from his other concertos, trading stormy brilliance for subtlety and introspection. It demands refinement, delicacy, and lyrical grace over sheer force. Rising star Thomas Luke brings just the right combination of finesse and poise to this masterpiece, balancing technical precision with poetic sensitivity to reveal the concerto’s deeper emotional layers. Hailed as a “trailblazer” by Steinway & Sons, Thomas Luke is a pianist of exceptional talent and versatility. He gained national recognition by winning the keyboard category of BBC Young Musician 2020. He is currently a Margaret Mount Scholar at the Royal College of Music.
